The Midwest and Chicago Oracle Users Group met on September 23rd, 2022 for their annual joint conference at the Innovation Lab in Deerfield. We had eight speakers including Oracle ACEs/Alumni and Oracle product managers. The sessions varied but crossed both developer as well as DBA related topics.
Location
We met at the Oracle office in Deerfield. What was special about this event is we met in the Innovation Lab behind the regular Oracle office. This was a fantastic space with plenty of seating and two different spaces to present. This allowed us to split up the tracks in the afternoon.
Agenda
Our annual conference is setup with two keynote sessions in the morning, followed by afternoon breakout sessions that are developer and DBA related. This allows attendees some options on which sessions to attend (which can be tough to decide at times). Our agenda was as follows:
Morning Sessions
I wasn’t able to attend all the sessions since there were multiple ones going on at once. Rich’s morning talk was excellent as usual about things to come with all things Oracle. This is not just a new features talk but things like the Oracle autonomous database, Machine Learning, AI, and robotics to name a few.
After Rich’s session, we had a virtual session with Jenny Tsai-Smith, VP, Database PM from Oracle on, 19c What’s New and What’s Next. After’s Jenny’s session, we met in the construction lab area. The Oracle representatives explained all the things that go on in this area. We then met Spot, the Boston Dynamics robot. This was quite a treat!
We then took a break for lunch which was catered from Roti. This was a delicious selection of Mediterranean food. During the lunch there was a panel with a bunch of Oracle ACEs and experts. They answered some great questions from the audience. The panel was facilitated by Tony Jedlinski.
Afternoon Sessions
The afternoon session were broken into two tracks. I attended two sessions. The first from Michelle Malcher on SQL Plan Management. I learned a few new things about this that I didn’t know previously. Next I attended Gary Gordhamer’s session on Oracle Tuning Tips. A very well done presentation. I heard all the other session were really good too.
Thank You!
We appreciate Oracle for sponsoring our meeting and allowing us to use the Innovation Lab. A big thank you to Viscosity North America for sponsoring another Midwest and Chicago Oracle Users Group meeting!
